Level 4: Somewhere-else Plan

Kid President Somewhere-else plan is a time to rethink. Somehow the other interventions have not worked. This is the time and place to allow for cooler minds to prevail and figure how to restore relationships so that the learning environment is safe for all. |
Strategies:
- 2 minute time-out: (Kohn, 2006) This can take place in the classroom or have the student just outside the classroom, giving both teacher and student a chance to “cool” before working on restoration.
- Seat change/ Visitor seat (Harmin, 1995): The student could be moved to a different seat in the classroom to separate from immediate peers, or the student could be moved to a specific seat or visitor’s chair that has been designated as a place to think and prepare for restoration.
- Thinkery form (Claassen, 2008) A form that will help all parties involved determine their part in the problem and begin to restore the relationship. This can be done in class, outside of class, or in a separate, safe place.
- Thinkery (Claassen, 2008) A place for an uncooperative student that have chosen not to respond to earlier interventions. This will be a neighboring classroom or if needed the office. The thinkery gives the student a place to be to contemplate what has happened, the next steps and to fill out the thinkery form. This will begin the restorative process.
